Connecting To A Chat Network

Most IRC programs have a listing of networks pre-programmed. The mIRC program will give you a choice of networks to connect to. The largest networks are DalNet, and Undernet.

If you want to add a network not listed, start your mIRC program, then when the mIRC Setup window opens, click the button marked "ADD" and fill in the blanks. Description can be any name you choose to remember the server, lets say you want to add Microsoft Comic Chat.

Type in Microsoft in Description. The next box down is IRC Server, type in irc.msn.com Be sure to place . between the words, not at the end of com. The next boxes you can leave as is, Port, Group and Password. If you happen to join a server that requires a different Port, or a Password, you can Edit the settings later.

There are many others listed, so connect to one of them, and see whats on. I've noticed that some of the mIRC Network listings do not allow people to connect without a password, so if this should happen to you, just try another network.

A list of Homepages for the various networks follows, so check out their homepages, and you will also find more information concerning that particular network. There are also some little known IRC Networks, such as chat.cnn.com, so a listing of them also follows.
