From the little boy of 5 who was from a large family in Gary, Indiana to the King of Pop as he was remembered. What a journey it has been for him and us as we traveled with him. The list of celebrities that file on stage to either speak or sing about the man we knew or thought we knew. Barry Gordy talked of the spark that he saw in Michael at the age of 10 as he and his brother were beginning there careers with Motown. His life friend Brooks Shields as they shared the same young star struggles of not having a childhood but related to each other so well. Steve Wonder sang a fitting tribute to him and shared personal stories. Martin Luther King III and Bernice King told of a phone call to there dying Mother and what a smile it brought to her face. There were basketball stars like Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson to a Congress woman Sheila Jackson Lee who announced that they are putting before congress a humanitarian award for the many things he did for others. Did you know that he was in the Genies Book of world records giving the most money to charities by a Pop Star? He believed in giving to the people who needed a helping hand, no matter the race, creed or color. He taught us all through his music to love each other. John Mayer, Usher, Smokey Robinson, Jennifer Hudson gave stellar performances. Jermaine Jackson sang Michael’s favorite song “Smile”. Rev Al Sharpton said of him that he changed culture all over the world with his music. And his thinking of “There is nothing that can’t be done if we raise our voice as one” he believed that and lived it out too. Whether you loved him or not you have to agree that he has influenced our lives for years and will be remembered as one of the world’s greatest performers. A touch statement was made by some of the brother and the one that broke all of our heart when his little girl express how much she loved and will miss her Dad. His family was all there, the brothers personally hugged and thanked each person and they left the stage. It was a very respectful and fitting memorial for Michael Joseph Jackson 1958-2009 |
