Dr. Hunter S.
Thompson, famous for his supersubjective journalism, called "Gonzo", is
reported dead of a suspected self inflicted gunshot wound, at his home
in Colorado. Dr. Thompson served in the Air Force, working as a sports
editor for the Eglin Air Base news paper. He first appeared on the literary
scene in 1966 with the publication of "Hells Angels, a Strange and Terrible
Saga" detailing his year long stay with the motorcycle gang "The Hells
Angels".
Hunter Stockton
Thompson was born in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1937. He served two
years in the U.S. Air Force, drafted in 1956, and was a sports reporter
for the Eglin Air Force Base (Florida) news paper. Thompson also spent
several years writing for newspapers in Puerto Rico and South America.
Thompson was a
regular contributor to both Rolling Stone and more recently an ESPN Page
2 feature, "Hey Rube".
Pitkin County
Sheriff Bob Braudis has confirmed the death of Dr. Thompson.
