Russell Crowe,
in New York City to promote his latest film, "Cinderella Man", was arrested
after an alleged assault on a hotel employee of the Mercer Street Hotel,
at about 4am Monday.
Crowe was alleged
to have been attempting to place a telephone call to Australia, and became
upset, throwing the telephone at a hotel employee. The employee suffered
minor lacerations, and was treated at St.Vincent's Hospital.
Crowe was taken
to a police station were he was charged with second-degree assault, which
carries a sentence of up to a year in prison.
Russell Crowe
has had a previous history of incidents. In 2002, he admitted to
being abusive to a producer at the Batta Awards, and in another incident
that same year, Crowe was involved in a brawl with a New Zealand businessman
in a London restaurant.
Russell Crowe's
off screen antics seem to coincide with the opening of his films.
