Anne Bancroft, stage and screen actress, best known for her portrayal of Mrs. Robinson in "The Graduate" has died of cancer at age 73.

On stage, Ms. Bancroft was awarded the Tony for  the role of Annie Sullivan, the teacher of Helen Keller.  She also appeared in  "Two for the Seesaw", with the late Henry Fonda.

Her films included "Blazing Saddles", "The Elephant Man", "G.I. Jane", "The Hindenburg" and "Young Winston".

She was married to Mel Brooks.
