The cremated remains
of the late Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, who killed himself in February, will
be shot from a cannon Saturday night at a monument erected behind his Woody
Creek, Colorado home.
Dr. Thompson served
in the Air Force, working as a sports editor for the Eglin Air Base news
paper. He first appeared on the literary scene in 1966 with the publication
of "Hells Angels, a Strange and Terrible Saga" detailing his year long
stay with the motorcycle gang "The Hells Angels".
Hunter Stockton
Thompson was born in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1937. He served two
years in the U.S. Air Force, drafted in 1956, and was a sports reporter
for the Eglin Air Force Base (Florida) news paper. Thompson also spent
several years writing for newspapers in Puerto Rico and South America.
