AOL’s clients
have been redirected to Video Professor in the past year, and this practice
seems to be surfacing once again.
AOL customers
who call for tech support with Windows Operating System questions are now
being routed to Video Professor, not for answers, but a pitch to purchase
a Windows CD lesson from Video Professor.
Video Professor
is no stranger to complaints regarding their lesson CD’s. AOL has redirected
their clients in the past, according to several sites. One such site details
the practice, submitted by an unnamed employee of West, a third-party telephone
help desk company.
The practice of
redirecting AOL clients to Video Professor has reportedly been reinstated
in the past few weeks.
Redirecting clients
raises several questions. Did AOL inform their clients beforehand that
they were using Video Professor, and the client would have to purchase
a lesson CD? (Note that from reports, the AOL client pays only for shipping
and handling, yet some clients state they are being billed for other CD’s
not ordered.)
Should AOL clients
pay anything, even a small shipping and handling fee?. It is assumed that
tech support is included in the AOL client package.
If you are an
AOL client, and have had this experience, please post it in our 'blog.
