The recent suicide
of Kaufman County District Attorney Louis "Bill" Conradt Jr., after a bust
from Dateline NBC and the vigilante group Perverted-Justice.com has raised
more questions regarding the vigilante groups methods.
Since their inception,
Perverted-Justice.com not only conducts these online busts, but has mounted
campaigns of harassment against those busted in their stings.
Perverted-Justice.com
volunteers have called employers, neighbors, posted flyers and informed
church members of the busts, further harassing those yet to be tried, or
arrested.
In the Conradt
case, did Perverted-Justice.com keep to their traditions of harassment,
further driving Mr. Conradt to suicide? The arrogance of Phillip Eide,
owner of Perverted-Justice.com suggests that even Dateline NBC cannot keep
him and his vigilante group in check.
Recent statements
by Eide suggest that Perverted-Justice.com has not abandoned their harassment
tactics.
In the Conradt
case, there was a town council meeting Saturday in Murphy, Texas. Residents
were understandably upset over the sting operation, and voiced their opinions.
On the Perverted-Justice.com
web site, Eide fired back, with a statement showing contempt for those
voicing their opinions:
"Which are worse
— the predators out there trying to rape children they befriend online,
or ignorant elitists who enable their attempts by trying to stop law enforcement
from dealing with this issue?"
"Our vote? Damn
both equally,"
Dateline NBC has
indeed "partnered with the devil" as several NBC staffers have commented.
The Conradt suicide
should be looked into, as a homicide, given Perverted-Justice.com's history
of harassment.
