In a move reminiscent of the June 18, 2005 shut down of the Yahoo! user created chat rooms, Yahoo! has closed the discussion forums in their News section.

Yahoo! News discussion users were surprised to find the forums closed, and a notice that the forums will reopen in "a few months".

Neil Budde, Yahoo Inc.'s general manager of news, said that:

"The Yahoo News message boards allowed a small number of vocal users to dominate the discussion," Budde wrote. "In addition, related discussions from similar news articles were not easily linked."

He also stated that the forums were closed to stop a few users from dominating the forums, and also mentioned "technical reasons" for the closure.
