AOL, in response
to recent additions or upgrades of email by Google, Yahoo! and MSN, has
launced AIM Mail, in beta testing form.
Called AIM Mail,
the service is AOL's latest attempt to regain the image as a broad portal
site.
One innovative
ingredient of AIM Mail is an "unsend" feature which lets users cancel a
message after it's been sent to another AOL or AIM Mail user -- if the
message is unread. Users can also check to see if a message sent to an
AOL or AIM user has been read.
In addition to
storage, search and security features, AIM Mail ties into the AIM service.
It has an address book with an AIM presence indicator that can be used
to zip instant messages to contacts who are online.
AIM Mail will
offer 2GB of storage, in line with the other free mail services recent
upgrades.
