Levin Death Confirmed.

On Saturday, 16
September 2006, Chatmag News reported on the death of Rob Levin, of Freenode.net
and The Peer-Directed Projects Center. The original announcement was made
on the Freenode IRC network, by Christel (Dahlskjaer), an administrator
of the network.
According to Ms.
Dahlskjaer, Rob had been a victim of a hit and run accident on the 12th
of September, and passed away on the 16th. Dahlskjaer stated she received
the news from Mr. Levin's wife, Debbie.
To confirm the
death of Rob Levin, Chatmag News has made several inquiries to sources
in the Houston area.
A check of the
Houston Chronicle web site documented a hit and run accident involving
a bicyclist and automobile, dated 11 September, not naming Levin, but another
individual, Victor Williams, 42. Mr. Williams was listed in fair condition.
The Houston Chronicle
Obituary section makes no mention of Rob or Robert Levin. Several published
obituaries on the Chronicle web site shows dates of death of other individuals
up to and including September 17th, one day after the announced death date
of Rob Levin.
An inquiry to
Chatmag's contact person at KPRC, a local Houston television station, provided
no information available regarding Rob Levin.
KPRC published
a local news report, regarding a bicyclist hit by an automobile, which
is the same report as the Houston Chronicle report, and naming Victor Williams,
42, as the victim of the hit and run.
The Harris County
Medical Examiners Office has not returned a telephone call requesting information
of an autopsy report filed under the name Robert, or Rob, Levin.
A telephone call
to the Houston Police Department, hit and run division, provided no information
regarding a hit and run involving Robert Levin. According to the Houston
Police, the last hit and run fatality on record occured on a local freeway,
and the deceased is a female. Quoting the Houston Police Department spokesperson,
"no fatality hit and run happens in this city without us knowing of it".
The Harris County,
Texas Sheriffs Department has no record of a fatality, or a hit and run
involving a bicycle and automobile.
Telephone calls
to the Peer-Directed Projects Center were not returned.
As of time of
publication, no confirmation has been received from Houston area sources
regarding the death of Rob Levin.
